Acceptance Inspection: Super Cone Fender, Arch Fender And Cleat Bollard for Penang, Malaysia

Recently, JIER Marine successfully passed the strict joint acceptance inspection performed by BV and witnessed by Tenaga Nasional Berhad, China Harbour, consultant JACOBS.

Summary Of The Project

CHEC PENANG 275KV TRANSMISSION LINE DEVELOPMENT PROJECT in Malaysia is of great significance to the infrastructure construction of Malaysia and is highly valued by the local government. The Penang cross-sea transmission line has a total of 31 transmission towers, spanning the Penang Strait, with a total length of 9.6 kilometers, connecting Penang Island with the Butterworth. This is the first large-scale cross-sea transmission line in Malaysia, which has attracted much attention. Once the line is completed, the New Prai power plant on the mainland will continuously and stably transmit its maximum 2,000 megawatts of electricity to Penang. Penang is the center of Malaysia's electronics industry, with a history of more than 50 years of development in the electrical and electronics industry. This project can not only meet Penang's electricity needs, but also directly drive local economic development.




The Biggest Super Cone Fender In The World

JIER Marine supplied JCO2500H, the biggest supper cone fender in the world for this project. The weight of this size rubber fender is about 18.5tons and the weight of the whole JCO2500H rubber fender system is about 35tons. As it is the biggest cone fender inthe world, JIER Marine devoted much effort into the mould design and production technology. This project requires the cone fender with super high reaction force. JIER Marine technical team and professors’ team from Hohai University (HHU) studied the technical specification very carefully, designed the new mould of the biggest cone fender and updated the rubber raw material formula. The cone fender JCO2500H has been approved with the compression tests according to PIANC 2002 for many times. In addition, by summarizing and improving the production process of the previous marine fenders, JIER Marine has improved the production process and ensured the mass production of the JCO2500H cone rubber fender.



General Tests

On the inspection day, Tenaga Nasional Berhad, China Harbour, JACOBS and BV witnessed many general tests including tensile strength, elongation at break, compression set, hardness, tear resistance, ozone resistance, bond strength, painting thickness, dimension test, visual test, fender compression test according to PIANC etc. The test results proved that the cone fender JCO2500H, the arch fender JDA-A200X1000 and stainless steel cleat bollards JBC5 and accessories complied with PIANC 2002, EN10293:2015 and BS 6349-4:2014.




Bollard Load Test and SS316L Material

For this project, JIER Marine supplied customized cleat bollard JBC in stainless steel SS316L. The capacity of this cleat bollard is small, also the material requirement for SS316L is not very normal for mooring bollards. JIER Marine technical team designed the cleat bollard body and accessories, also produced the bollard in SS316L successfully. The clear bollards JBC5 were subject to 1.5times horizontal load test. After the test, there were no crack, no damage on the surface of the mooring bollard. It is certain that the cleat bollards for this project can meet with the mooring requirements.



First Acceptance Inspection

There are other acceptance inspections for this project, this is the first one. JIER Marine's excellent performance in the entire acceptance process impressed Tenaga Nasional Berhad, China Harbour, JACOBS and BV. After this inspection, JIER Marine completed the corresponding testing documents and made active preparations for the next inspection stage.
