In August 2013, JIER Marine successfully won the bid and delivered the JFO Square Fender System for Penang Port in Malaysia. This project marked a significant breakthrough for the company in the Southeast Asian port engineering sector and laid a solid foundation for our subsequent international expansion.
As Malaysia's second-largest port and its premier transshipment hub, Penang Port handles an annual throughput exceeding 100 million tons, serving as a vital maritime trade hub in Southeast Asia. Located at the northeastern entrance of the Strait of Malacca, the port manages a high volume of vessel berthing operations daily. Given the complex local sea conditions and the challenge of limited space at certain berths requiring efficient utilization, the client selected the JFO Fender System provided by Jier Marine.
The JFO Fender System offers three internal shapes to meet specific requirements for different application scenarios:
D-bore Square Fender: Its narrow-base design is particularly suitable for open-type wharves.
O-bore Square Fender: Ideal for berths with higher reaction force requirements.
Solid Square Fender: Designed for areas with specialized protection needs.
Among these, the D-bore Square Fender was the core choice for this project due to its superior technical advantages:
√ Gentle reaction curve: Capable of accommodating the berthing of various vessel types.
√ Linear stability: Maintains a linear increase in reaction force even at 60% compression, ensuring stability.
√ Low surface pressure: Peak pressure is controlled within 0.3 MPa, effectively protecting hulls from damage.
JFO Square Fenders are manufactured using an advanced extrusion process. First, a dedicated extruder forms the fender profile, followed by multi-stage vulcanization to ensure full cross-linking of the rubber molecular. Finally, finishing processes such as pre-curving, drilling, chamfering, and cutting are performed according to specific requirements. The entire production process strictly adheres to ISO 17357 and PIANC standards, ensuring every product meets international quality benchmarks.
The Penang Port JFO Square Fender project took approximately two months from contract signing to final delivery—a timeline that was both tight and highly efficient. The project was successfully completed with product delivery and installation in August 2013, fully demonstrating JIER Marine's professional capabilities and efficient coordination in the field of marine berthing and mooring engineering equipment.
The JFO Square Fender System has demonstrated excellent performance, significantly enhancing Penang Port's impact resistance and operational safety. The successful implementation of this project was a key step for JIER Marine in entering the Southeast Asian market; it not only validated our technical strength but also accumulated valuable experience for our subsequent expansion into Southeast Asia and the global market.
Looking ahead, JIER Marine will continue to uphold the core philosophy of "Innovation, Quality, and Service." We are committed to deepening our expertise in marine berthing and mooring engineering equipment, striving to provide global clients with more efficient, reliable, and eco-friendly solutions. Through continuous technological innovation and strategic international deployment, the company will continuously enhance its competitiveness in the global marine engineering equipment market, providing solid assurance for the safety of global port facilities and vessel berthing.
