The list of the 2025 Global Best Projects Award by Engineering News-Record (ENR) has been officially announced. The Malaysia Penang 275kV Sea-crossing Transmission Line Project, constructed by China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC) with core fender system protection supplied by JIER Marine, successfully won the Excellent Project Award in the Energy/Industrial category. The recognition underscores the project's high construction and management standards while affirming JIER Marine's technological innovation and product reliability in the field of high-end marine protection engineering.
ENR is one of the world's most authoritative publications in the engineering and construction industry. Its annual Best Projects awards are known for rigorous criteria and strong competition. Projects are comprehensively evaluated across multiple dimensions, including design innovation, engineering quality, safety performance, sustainability, and community impact. This year's selection featured 32 benchmark projects from 24 countries and regions, making the competition exceptionally fierce.
The Malaysia Penang 275kV Sea-crossing Transmission Line Project spans the Penang Strait, with a total length of approximately 8.5 kilometers. It includes 31 transmission towers, 26 of which are offshore. A key engineering challenge was ensuring the structural safety of the offshore tower foundations against accidental vessel impact, which demanded exceptionally high impact resistance and long-term durability from the fender protection system.
As a leading enterprise in marine berthing and mooring systems, JIER Marine was selected to supply the critical fender system based on its established reputation and proven technical capabilities in previous international projects. Confronted with technical gaps and demanding performance requirements, the company collaborated with research partners such as Hohai University to conduct systematic R&D. Through structural simulation, material innovation, and process optimization, JIER Marine successfully developed the JCO2500H super-large cone rubber fender, with a single unit weighing 35 metric tons. The product has passed technical appraisal organized by the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Industry and Information Technology and is recognized as reaching an overall international advanced level—marking a breakthrough in localized production of core equipment in this sector.
The successful partnership with CHEC highlights JIER Marine's achievements on its "Specialized, Refined, Unique, and Innovative" development path. Looking ahead, the company will continue to deepen its expertise in specialized marine rubber fender protection systems for large-scale ports, cross-sea infrastructure, offshore wind power, and other marine engineering scenarios, striving to become a key global supplier and partner in the high-end marine engineering protection sector.
