SUPER CONE FENDER SYSTEM
PROJECT INTRODUCTION
Shuwaikh Port, Kuwait’s most strategically vital port, is situated immediately west of Kuwait City’s central business district on the southern coast of Kuwait Bay (Persian Gulf). The Rehabilitation of Berth 1 to 7 at Shuwaikh Port project is owned by the Kuwait Ports Authority (KPA) and executed by the Hyundai Engineering & Construction Co., Ltd. / Gulf Dredging & General Contracting Co. Joint Venture (HDEC-GD JV). JIER Marine supplied the following marine infrastructure components:
· JDA300H and JDA500H Arch Fenders
· JBH100 and JBH50 Stag Horn Bollards
THIRD PARTY INSPECTION
A joint delegation comprising representatives from KUWAIT PORT AUTHORITY (KPA), Al-Jazera Consultants, and HYUNDAI ENGINEERING & CONSTRUCTION CO.,LTD. /GULF DREDGING & GENERAL CONTRACTING Co. JOINT VENTURE (HDEC-GD JV) visited JIER Marine to witness third-party testing conducted by Bureau Veritas. The comprehensive inspection regime included:
· Tensile strength
· Elongation at break
· Compression set
· Hardness
· Tear resistance
· Ozone resistance
· Bond strength
· Abrasion resistance
· Seawater corrosion resistance
SPECIALIZED MATERIAL TESTING
Beyond standard tests, Bureau Veritas performed three critical validation procedures on the rubber fender material:
1. Crack Growth Test: 10,000 cycles were applied. Result: No surface cracks observed.
2. High-Temperature Fatigue Test: 3,000 cycles at 90°C, reaching rated deflection. Result: Zero visible cracks or deformations.
3. Mooring Simulation Test: 3,000 cycles combining 20% shear force and 35% axial compression at a 5° berthing angle. Result: No surface cracking detected.
COMPLIANCE & CERTIFICATION
All test results confirmed JIER Marine’s fender systems exceed project specifications and comply with stringent international standards, including:
· BS 6349-4:2014 (Maritime Structures)
· PIANC 2002 (Guidelines for Fender Design)
INSTALLATION & COMMISSIONING
JIER Marine deployed technical teams to provide on-site installation supervision. All supplied equipment—fenders, bollards, and ladders—was successfully installed under JIER’s guidance. Kuwait Port Authority formally endorsed the performance of JIER Marine’s rubber fender systems, mooring bollards, and technical support services.
